The Exceptional Student Education Program at Plantation High School is implemented in accordance with Broward County District Procedures for Exceptional Education. There are programs for the gifted, emotionally handicapped, educable mentally handicapped, specific learning disabled, physically handicapped, and speech/language-impaired students. Eligible ESE students participate in an ESE program that has the support of two teachers, an ESE teacher and regular subject area teacher, in the classroom through cooperative teaching and support facilitation. Parents and teachers work closely with the school psychologist and the ESE Specialist to provide proper placement and develop an individualized educational plan (IEP). Eligibility for the ESE program is based on state and county requirements. ESE Equivalent Courses have the same student performance standards as regular education courses. Courses may be used to meet required credits for graduation with a standard high school diploma. ESE Non-equivalent Courses are designed to meet the needs of handicapped students enrolled in regular high schools. Credits earned in these courses may be used to meet the graduation requirements for a special diploma or toward elective credits for a standard high school diploma.
