The purpose of Student Government is to represent the students of Plantation High School. Student Government is responsible for promoting efficient communication between the students, the faculty and the administration and for organizing the student body so that it may act with one voice as one body on various affairs. In addition, creating, painting, and posting banners around the school is crucial in promoting the different activities and events taken place in school. These events include Fun Shop, homecoming, tree sale, Rock the Stage, Spring Trip, and much much more.
Plantation High School is a member of the SASC or Southern Association of Student Councils. SASC is an organization of member schools from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
SASC began in 1932 when Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee, invited several schools from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas to participate in a conference to celebrate its 20th year of student government. Because of the success of that meeting, the attending schools decided to hold a meeting each year. Other schools were invited to send delegates, and thus the Southern Association of Student Councils was born. Since 1932, member schools have served as hosts to the annual conference with the exception of the years during World War II.
Although the structure of SASC has been modified in the years since 1932, its goals remain to provide leadership training, practical experience in democratic principles, and an exchange of ideas. Believing that we can not live in an isolated community, SASC continues to offer student leaders a chance to grow through travel and shared experience.
